Dressage is considered an art and can be extremely demanding for horses, who as we know are domesticated animals, far from their natural habitat in which they could run about and graze on grass as they pleased. Horses must make great efforts to adapt in order to avoid excessive nervousness or anxiety.
Stress should not be taken lightly in horses, as it can lead to digestive problems, colic, ulcers, and/or dehydration due to diarrhea or excessive sweating. Stress may also lead to behavioural issues, lack of concentration, fatigue, muscle pain caused by excessive muscle contraction, and the onset of some diseases.
